Three Film Openings (Homework)

I have chosen transformers as one of my research on genres. This genre is action. The film opens with a very deep voice, who is male the voice of the character is not revealed to the audience. However, the voice is narrating the story for the opening of the filming, what the narrator seems to be talking about is a cube which is very important as it has the power to create worlds. This instantly indicates to the audience that the cube, perhaps is going to be the main focus in this film. The setting for the opening of this film, seems to be in space. The lighting in the opening is very dark which goes perfectly with what the narrator is saying. The title of this film is not yet revealed until the very last thing that the narractor says and then the title appears with sounds of machinery, while it is being formed.

Secondly, i have chosen Narnia as my next genre to research on. The genre for Narnia is fantasy. The opening of this film is very gloomy and has misty fog and this creates a sence of fear and shows that perhaps something bad is going to happen and this is when airplanes appear from the mist this shows that what was going to happen is going to happen right at this precise moment. Then the camera reveals that there is a  was taking place, this is shown when the airplanes start to drop bombs on the country. while this is happening the first character is shown which is a boy who is looking out of the window, the clothes that he is wearing seems old fashion like it is in the 19th century during the world wars. Also there is other characters introduced to the audience for example there is a woman who is the mother to the children. Furthermore, there is also another boy and two other girls, this instantly suggest to the audience that the main focus will be on them. However, this genre is a fantasy, the setting is very dark and does not seem like a fantasy, but this also leaves the audience in suspense this is due to the fact that they don't know where the kid will end up. The lighting used in this film is also very dark and gloomy to create fear for the audience. 

The final film, which i have chosen is knowing the genre for this is thriller and science-fiction. The convention for this film is a venerable weak girl who is the victim in this film. The sound effects used in this film are people whispering this creates a spooky effect for the audience. The lighting used in this film is very dark in the beginning and then there is a contrast when the camera is facing up in the sky and this is when the whispering is still happening. 

Eye Line Match And Graphic Match

For this task, which was the eye line match and graphic match was perhaps the fastest task that was filmed. This was due to the fact that the task did not have a storyboard and was just improvised, so i think that was the reason why the film did not come out that good in my opinion. However i did do the acting in this task, which was rather easy for me as i do like to act also i did the editing with help from nilima as editing is one of my weakness in media, with a little help from nilima i got the hang of it. What i learnt from this task is that i should not improvise and should do a storyboard so we don't get off track while doing the task.

The Chase

For this task, which was the chase i did the editing and i also took part acting init. i think this was a very fun task to do as it had comedy and we also found a very good place to film the task. However something that we could of improved on is the background noise even though i did try to edit it out by muting the sound, however i did not mute the parts that was needed and that is where the fuzzy noise comes in which can not be removed. Overall, what i learnt from this task is that editing is rather easy to do when the camera work is really good.

One Perspective

I was absent for the one perspective task. However my peers filled me in with the storyboard and they showed me the video. Each of them had individual jobs such as nilima and abdul producing the storyboard, umor doing the camera work and finally umor and nilima editing. Overall, i thought that the task was sucessful and the story line was very good. However, they could of improved on the continuity of the filiming this is due to the fact that a light switched on and off during the filming so that could of been an improvement.

Quiet Task

 

For the quiet task i acted in this task and i also helped nilima to do the editing. The improvements needed in this task is that there is alot of background noise and people talking so that was a negative in this task. However, i don't think we could of done anything for the noise to go this is because we needed that piece with the background noise. Furthermore, the story line in my perspective was rather good, the storyboard was produced by abdul.

Lighting Task

For the lighting task i did the camera work. At first i found it difficult to use the camera for example keeping the camera steady and knowing what time to stop the camera when it was needed. However i did get help from Ms.georgiou by her helping me keep the camera steady on the tripod and then i got the hang of it. As this was our first task that we did in media it was difficult to adjust to making the storyboard and as we were focusing on lighting we had to know when it was appropriate to use the light or when to switch it off or when we could use it effectively as we did use all three of these techniques for the task. What i learnt from this task is that when ever you use light to make a scene or character come across in a certain way, the light can make it more effective.
